Actor and TVK chief Thalapathy Vijay and Trisha Krishnan made headlines following their joint appearance at a wedding reception in Chennai a few days ago. What caught major attention that it happened after his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, filed for divorce and accused him of having an extra-marital affair with an actress. Then, actor-director R Parthiban made indirect remarks at the rumoured couple on two different occasions. Following that, Trisha posted a message on social media, criticising his digs.
Parthiban clarifies his comments on Trisha-Vijay’s recent appearance
Parthiban has now shared a YouTube video and made an official clarification on the overall matter. In the clip posted on his channel, he openly regretted making those comments, and clarified that it was never his intention. He felt that after many people highlighted his comments at the event, specifically the Kundhavai one, he realised it was something he should have avoided. He also denied the accusation of his request to display those photos, calling it 100% false.
He addressed, “I am not a slave to anyone. I have never been paid to attend an event, and I never will be. I will not join any political party or compromise my integrity for money. My honest feeling is that Thalapathy Vijay has overcome enormous obstacles to enter politics. Even the Karur stampede did not damage him as much as this wedding reception did. And Trisha should not have attended the wedding reception. That is my inner thought. But I did not go on stage with the intention of saying it. The event was pre-planned, and I will speak about that separately.”
How the Parthiban-Trisha controversy began?
At the recently held Galatta Awards, Parthiban was asked to express his views on those actors who he had previously worked with. When a picture of Trisha appeared on the screen, he used wordplay to refer to her character from Ponniyin Selvan. “Indha Kundavaiye konjaneram kunthavaikkirathu nallathu (It is better to ask this Kundavai to sit at home for a while),” he said.

In response, Trisha took to her X (formely Twitter) account and made a strong statement, stating, “A microphone doesn’t make a comment intelligent or humorous. It just makes stupidity louder, (sic)” she said. She also wrote in her post that she had been informed by the organisers of the event that her name and picture had been included at the last minute at the request of “an individual conveyed through his assistant”.

Meanwhile, Vijay’s wife Sangeetha has requested an interim order to shift to their Chennai residence. She filed a divorce plea against Vijay in the Chengalpattu family court in Chennai.
Vijay and Sangeetha married in June 1998 in the UK, and re-exchanged their vows in the presence of fans in August 1999. The couple share two children- Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha.
