Sidhu Moosewala death anniversary: How Punjabi singer’s last ride ended in gunfire incident, close friend recalls shocking moment

Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was murdered on May 29, 2022, while going to eat golgappas in his village. Know the full story.

Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala loved chaat and fast food. On the evening of May 29, 2022, he left his mansion in Musa village, Punjab, just to eat golgappas. He told his friend Sukhpal Singh and others that he would return soon. But no one knew that was his last ride.

Why did Sidhu leave his bulletproof car and gunman behind?

A year after his murder, when an Aaj Tak team visited Musa village, they spoke to two eyewitnesses, Sukhpal Singh, who now takes care of Sidhu’s aging parents, and Gurpreet Singh (aka Pinka), who was with him that day. Sukhpal recalled: Sidhu met him at the garage gate, driving a Thar. When Sukhpal asked where he was going, Sidhu gestured, “To eat golgappas.” Sukhpal then pointed to the missing gunman. Sidhu pulled out his pistol and showed it, saying there would be no need for a gunman.

Why did Sidhu Moosewala want to take Thar for a spin?

The Thar did not belong to Sidhu. A fan had brought it to the village for a car wash. Sidhu saw it, liked it, and the owner let him drive it for a few days. Sidhu started using it around the village instead of his bulletproof car. On that day, one bodyguard was sick, and Sidhu did not take the other because the Thar had limited seating space.

What happened that night?

Gurpreet Singh, another eyewitness, said there was no big plan that day. Sidhu often went to nearby roads for fast food like golgappas. On the way to the bus stand, Sidhu said he also had to visit his aunt’s house nearby. Gurpreet had told him, “Then you should have brought a bulletproof car or taken a gunman.” Sidhu replied: “Just come quickly, there won’t be any problem.”

How did the gunfight start?

On the road, they thought a car was following them, but it changed route. Sidhu said it was probably a fan taking photos. But a few turns later, the car came again. They realised something was wrong and told Sidhu to drive faster. Another car overtook them. Sidhu saw they had guns and were about to fire. Sidhu fired the first shot with his pistol.

The gunfire lasted about one to one-and-a-half minutes. According to Gurpreet, Sidhu fired seven shots from his pistol. After the shooting, the killers fled. No one came near for 5–7 minutes. When people arrived, Sidhu was already dead. Police took all three to the hospital, where Sidhu was declared dead.

Sidhu was shot 24 times

The post-mortem showed 24 bullet wounds on Sidhu’s body. This shows the killers were determined to kill him completely. The shooters belonged to the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gangs.

What happened to Gurpreet and Gurvinder?

Sidhu’s two friends, Gurpreet and Gurvinder, were childhood friends and did not know how to use weapons. Sukhpal said if they had grabbed Sidhu’s gun and fired back, the killers might not have come so close.

Both survived, but people questioned how they survived such a fierce gunfight. Some even accused them of being involved. Gurpreet said: “People said, ‘They were together, why did they survive? They must be involved.’ But Sidhu’s family was with us; they never said anything.” Gurpreet still has a large scar on his left arm from the AK-47 bullets fired by the killers.

Life for Sidhu’s parents without him

Sukhpal became emotional when asked about Sidhu’s parents. He said they cry 6–7 times a day. Whenever a video of Sidhu suddenly appears on social media, they start crying. He now carries the full responsibility of caring for them and their work.

Sidhu Moosewala’s death anniversary

Sidhu’s name was unnecessarily linked to the Vicky Middukheda murder case, even though he had nothing to do with it. May 29, 2022, remains a horrific day for Musa village and Punjabi music. Sidhu Moosewala was just going for golgappas when his life ended in a public massacre that still haunts everyone who was there.
