Marathi actor Mahesh Pawar passed away in a tragic road accident. He was only 25. According to PTI, the accident happened in the Ambenali Ghat area on Poladpur-Mahabaleshwar road, around 180 km from Mumbai. Seven others were killed in the accident as well.
How did the accident occur?
The police suspect that the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle in the ghat area. The eight friends were on a trip when their vehicle plunged nearly 1,500 feet into a gorge in the hilly stretch.
Who was Mahesh Pawar?
Mahesh Pawar was a Marathi actor who was best known for his role in the popular television show Appi Amchi Collector. He also starred in the 2016 Marathi film Youth.
Who are the victims in the tragic accident?
Apart from Mahesh, other victims are: Ritesh Lokhande (22), Suhas Lokhande (20), Utkarsh Shingte (21), Nikhil Shingte (25), Aditya Salunkhe (21), Rajesh Katkar (35), all the residents of Satara, and Ansh Chavan (19).
The victims were in the age group of 19 to 35. They left from Harne in Dapoli at around 2 am on Sunday in the SUV. Their relatives approached the police when they did not reach Satara.
The victims’ last location was traced through a mobile tower near Poladpur. The police later spotted the SUV in the deep gorge on Monday morning while searching in the Ambenali Ghat section.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his grief after hearing about the tragic accident and the death of eight people. According to PTI, he also informed that the district administration launched immediate rescue and relief operations and formed five teams of seven members each to retrieve the bodies. Three bodies have been recovered, and efforts are underway to retrieve the remaining bodies with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and voluntary rescue teams.
