The upcoming historical drama starring Sunny Deol has received a new title before its release in theatres. The film, which was earlier called Lahore 1947, is now reportedly being renamed Batwara 1947.
The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan. Reports say the makers decided to change the title because the word “Lahore” could create controversy due to the current tensions between India and Pakistan. The new title is also said to better represent the larger story about the Partition of India in 1947.
Though reports about the title change have been circulating online, there is no official confirmation, and producer Aamir Khan has reportedly denied them.
How Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol collaborated on Batwara 1947?
Sunny Deol had earlier shared that he and Rajkumar Santoshi had been discussing this story for many years and wanted to make it into a film. In an interview, he said the project finally moved forward after the success of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. That was when Aamir Khan approached him and expressed interest in producing the movie.
This film brings Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi together again after their successful films like Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak.

It is based on the acclaimed play “Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni” by Asghar Wajahat. The film is set during the difficult time of India’s 1947 Partition. The story focuses on Mai, an elderly Hindu woman who continues to live in Lahore even after the divide.
When is Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 releasing?
Along with Sunny Deol, the film also stars Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, and Abhimanyu Singh. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on August 13 this year.
