Meghna Gulzar is back with Daayra, and this time, the real face-off isn’t between the cops and the criminals — it’s between two very different ideas of justice.
Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran as DCP Ajooni Kohli and DCP Raman Kumar, the trailer throws us straight into a case where the law, morality and justice refuse to stay in their respective lanes.
And the more you watch, the more questions it throws your way. Here are five things that make the Daayra trailer impossible to ignore.
- Meghna Gulzar is back in the crime zone
After Talvar, Meghna Gulzar returns to the world of crime and investigation, but Daayra seems less interested in simply asking “Who did it?” and far more interested in “What happens next?”
The trailer sets up a case that quickly becomes a larger conversation about the justice system, accountability and what happens when the law is put to the ultimate test.
Because sometimes, finding the culprit is only the beginning.
- Kareena Kapoor Khan’s DCP Ajooni Kohli isn’t backing down
Kareena Kapoor Khan plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, a cop who believes in the law — and isn’t willing to bend it just because the case gets complicated.
She finds herself investigating an encounter involving fellow senior officer DCP Raman Kumar, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran. And that’s where things get interesting.
Because Ajooni and Raman may wear the same uniform, but when it comes to justice, they are clearly reading from very different pages.
- The dialogues are asking the uncomfortable questions
If the trailer sets up the debate, its dialogues take it head-on. Raman says, “Ek accused toh patli gali se nikal gaya.”
Ajooni is quick to correct him, “Woh patli gali nahi, Juvenile Protection Law hai.” And Raman fires back, “Ek juvenile jo rape aur murder kar skate hai, uski protection?” Three lines, and suddenly the entire debate around law versus justice is sitting right in front of you.
It’s the kind of exchange that doesn’t tell you what to think — it makes you pick a side.
- Two cops. Two ideologies. One explosive face-off.
This is where Daayra gets really intriguing. Ajooni believes justice has to operate within the boundaries of the law. Raman appears to believe that sometimes, delivering justice requires going beyond those boundaries. Neither is simply positioned as right or wrong. Instead, the trailer puts the two ideologies on a collision course and lets the audience sit right in the middle of it. The result? A police investigation that feels like a much bigger battle over where justice ends and retribution begins.
- The trailer gives you no easy answers
And perhaps that’s the biggest hook. Daayra doesn’t seem to be offering a neat good-cop/bad-cop equation or a simple answer to a complicated case. Instead, it keeps pushing you into the grey. Is justice about following the law? Or making sure justice is served? What happens when the system fails to deliver? And who gets to decide when the rules can be broken?
The trailer leaves these questions hanging — and that’s precisely why the conversation doesn’t end when the trailer does.
With Daayra, every clue seems to lead to another question. And that’s a pretty intriguing place to begin.
