In a massive development that has shaken the entire Bollywood industry, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees has announced that its more than four lakh members will not work with Ranveer Singh following his last minute exit from Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3.

The FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor after he allegedly failed to respond to three notices sent by the federation. Ranveer Singh has been asked to pay Rs 45 crore to the Don 3 makers, failing which he may face a ban.

Why did FWICE take action against Ranveer Singh?

Farhan Akhtar and his producing partner Ritesh Sidhwani filed a complaint against Ranveer Singh before the Indian Film and Television Directors Association, which then referred the matter to FWICE. The producers claim that more than Rs 45 crore had already been spent in the pre-production phase of Don 3 before Ranveer walked out just three weeks before shooting was to begin.

What did FWICE officials say at the press conference?

FWICE honorary general secretary Ashok Dubey said the federation will not work with Ranveer Singh until the dispute is cleared. He said Ranveer had left a film that many people had worked on for three years. FWICE president B N Tiwari added that the federation wanted to send a clear message to the industry that no superstar is bigger than the rules or the system.

What is the Don 3 controversy and how did it start?

In 2023, it was officially announced that Ranveer Singh would play the lead role in Don 3, directed by Farhan Akhtar and produced by Excel Entertainment. However, reports suggest that Ranveer later exited the project just before shooting was expected to begin. This sudden change reportedly created issues for the production team, leading Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani to file a complaint with industry bodies. The situation has now escalated after FWICE’s directive against the actor.
