For Xishmiya Brown, being visible has never been limited to being photographed.
The Kolkata-born model and socialite has spent the last few years moving between fashion, music videos, digital media and other creative spaces, gradually shaping a career that doesn’t fit neatly into one category. With another music-video project, Badi Mushkil, currently in development and an increasing interest in acting, Brown is now looking at what comes after simply being in front of the camera.
Her story begins in Kolkata, West Bengal, where she was born on July 9, 2001. She completed her schooling through senior secondary level at a missionary school in the city. Growing up, her interests were not restricted to fashion; painting was one of the creative activities she developed an early connection with.
That combination of visual interests and performance would eventually become relevant to the direction her professional life took.
Finding a place in front of the camera
Brown’s career has developed through a mixture of modeling and visual projects rather than following a single conventional route.
She has appeared in the music videos Soniye (2024), Tajjub Hai (2025) and Justujoo (2026), experiences that have gradually expanded her work from modeling into performance.
Music videos have also given her an opportunity to explore something different from traditional modeling: movement, expression and communicating a particular mood within a short visual format.
Her next project, Badi Mushkil, continues that connection with music and visual storytelling. Details of the project have not yet been fully revealed.
Rather than treating each project as a separate identity, Brown sees them as different parts of the same creative journey.
A career that doesn’t stay in one lane
The word “model” remains central to Brown’s professional identity, but her interests have increasingly moved beyond fashion photography and runway work.
Acting is one of the areas she is now interested in exploring more seriously.
For Brown, the transition isn’t about abandoning modeling. Her experience in front of the camera has instead become a foundation for understanding performance.
“Acting is something I’m genuinely excited to explore in the future. Music videos have given me an opportunity to understand expressions, emotions and performance in front of the camera, and I would love to take that experience further.”
She is particularly interested in projects that allow her to learn rather than simply repeat the same kind of appearance.
The Kolkata connection
Although Brown’s career has taken her into broader fashion and entertainment spaces, Kolkata remains an important part of her background.
She was raised in the city and studied at a missionary school there before pursuing her professional ambitions. Her parents are S. Banerjee and R. Banerjee.
Brown speaks English, Hindi and Bengali, reflecting both her Kolkata roots and the wider Indian audience she has built through her work.
Her public identity today also extends beyond India, with Los Angeles, California being another place associated with her life and career.
There is more to her than fashion
Away from cameras and music-video sets, Brown has a collection of interests that are somewhat different from what might traditionally be associated with a model.
Racing is one of them.
She is also interested in martial arts and kickboxing, as well as horse riding, painting and cooking.
Those interests have become part of the broader picture of Brown’s personality, particularly as she continues to explore different areas rather than defining herself exclusively through fashion.
A digital audience — and what comes with it
Social media has naturally become an important part of Brown’s career.
Her Instagram presence, @xishmiyabrown, has grown to more than five million followers, giving her a sizeable audience for fashion, lifestyle and professional content.
But Brown’s current direction suggests that the social-media audience is becoming a platform rather than the destination itself.
Her focus is increasingly on creating work that exists beyond a post or reel — whether that means modeling, music videos, acting or other visual projects.
That distinction is important in an entertainment industry where digital visibility can open a door, but sustained work ultimately depends on what happens away from the feed.
Giving back away from the spotlight
Brown has also been involved in community initiatives involving food and clothing distribution, including outreach involving children and people in need.
The activities have added another dimension to her public presence, alongside fashion and entertainment.
