The controversy around Don 3 has now moved from the film world to the courtroom. After Ranveer Singh’s sudden exit from Farhan Akhtar’s much-talked-about film, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor, and now filmmaker TP Agarwal has challenged that order in the Bombay Civil Court.
Why did the dispute start?
The issue began when Ranveer Singh was announced as the new Don in 2023, replacing Shah Rukh Khan in the franchise. But in December 2025, reports claimed that Ranveer walked out of the project after the success of his film Dhurandhar. Farhan Akhtar later alleged that this exit caused a loss of around ₹45 crore to the film.
What did TP Agarwal say?
TP Agarwal, a former president of IMPPA, has filed a petition against FWICE and IMPPA. He said that no trade body or organisation has the legal right to ban an artist or stop others from working with them. According to him, such matters should be handled through proper legal channels, not through pressure or informal bans.
How the matter became bigger
After Farhan’s complaint, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh. The move drew a lot of attention because it turned a film disagreement into an industry-wide conflict. Ranveer, meanwhile, said he respects the film fraternity and preferred to stay silent, asking that professional matters be handled with dignity.
The new petition has been filed in the Bombay Civil Court in Dindoshi, Mumbai. TP Agarwal’s challenge is now questioning whether film bodies can really stop an actor from working. That means the Don 3 dispute may now be decided in a legal forum instead of only through industry pressure.
When the controversy began
The tension started in December 2025, when Ranveer’s exit from Don 3 was first reported. It escalated in April 2026 after Farhan Akhtar and Excel Entertainment complained to FWICE, and the issue has now reached the courts. The Don franchise began with Shah Rukh Khan in Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011). In 2023, Ranveer Singh was announced as the new lead for Don 3, but the project has remained stuck ever since. Now, instead of moving toward production, the film has become one of Bollywood’s biggest controversies.
